An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island, Lagos has sentenced a 23-year-old Alhassan Ibrahim to 19 years imprisonment for breaking into a shop at the outer Marina area of CMS bus stop, Lagos Island with three others now at large to steal phones and accessories Valued at N1m belonging to Kolawolee Niyi.

The convict was jailed by Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku after the convict changed his not guilty plea during the trial and pleaded guilty to the four-count charge bordering on burglary, stealing and cutting two security men with cutlass occasioning bodily harm preferred against him by the Police at the Lion Building division, Lagos Island and the facts of the Matter presented before the Court by the Police Prosecuting Counsel, Hafsat Ajibode.
Police said that trouble started for the convict on 9 March 2022 when he and three others now at large stormed the complainant’s shop at 1 am to burgle it and stole phones and accessories valued at N1m.
Police further said that while the robbery was going on, the two security men on duty challenged the suspects, but the convict and others overpowered the Security men using a cutlass to cut their neck and head and fled with the stolen properties.
Police said that following the incident, the complainant reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Lion Building Division, Lagos Island who swiftly directed his crack team led by Inspector Togba Israel to fish out the suspects anywhere they might be hiding.
The Police team arrested the convict at a hideout on Lagos Island through tracking while others escaped.
The convict was charged before the Court on a four-count charge and he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail.
But the convict changed his not guilty plea during the trial and pleaded guilty to the charges leading to his conviction.
Magistrate, Ayoku sentenced the convict to 19 years imprisonment without an option of fine and directed that the sentence would run concurrently.
