Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, says Nigeria must shift from consumption to production if the country must attain greatness.
Osinbajo stated this in Awka, Anambra State during a national innovation workshop organised by the senate committee on science, technology and innovation.
According to him, the Federal Government would continue to support innovation, while encouraging inventors to think towards commercialisation of their innovations……The host governor Chukwuma Soludo reiterates the economic advantage to consuming locally made goods and services.
The Lawmaker representing Anambra central at the National Assembly, Uche Ekwunife notes that the workshop offered a unique platform to Nigerians to rebrand the national innovation ecosystem, with emphasis on technology and entrepreneurship.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is the Chairman of the National Economic Council has made the return of production of essential goods and services a part of the cardinal agenda of the current administration even as it winds down.
Some of the steps taken to achieve this aim includes the expansion of the Anchor Borrowers scheme of the Central Bank of Nigeria which is designed to help in financing farming activities and the establishment of a viable and sustainable Value Chain for all locally produced products and enhance their revenue generating abilities.
The Federal Government has also launched and revived the Textile Sector Reform that will see to the revitalisation of the Textile Industries across the country which would see to the direct employment of Thousands and an indirect employment and empowerment of Others running into Millions of new jobs.
The Issue of moving Nigeria from Consumption to production has also featured prominently in the campaign promises and programmes of the 3 main candidates in the race to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubkar in his manifesto pledged to increase economic output through Manufacturing while the Labour Party Candidate, Peter Obi, is a well known advocate of moving from Consumption to production even if he has not presented a manifesto yet.
The All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu haas his own Economic policies encapsulated in the Manifesto tagged Renewed Hope 2023.
